CM Omar deputes Health Minister Sakina Itoo to oversee treatment
Srinagar, Jul 28: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday visited SKIMS Soura to enquire about the health and well-being of the Amarnath Yatra pilgrims injured in a road accident at Ganiwan in Ganderbal district earlier in the day.
According to the details available with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) during the visit, the Lieutenant Governor directed the hospital administration to provide the best possible medical care to the injured pilgrims.
LG Sinha interacted with the injured pilgrims undergoing treatment and their attendants, enquired about their condition and wished them a speedy recovery.
A team of doctors briefed the Lieutenant Governor about the treatment being provided to the injured pilgrims. He reviewed the medical care and instructed the hospital administration to ensure the best possible treatment for all the injured.
LG Sinha also directed senior officials to extend all necessary assistance and personal care to the pilgrims and ensure arrangements for their safe return to their hometowns after recovery.
In a post on X, the Lieutenant Governor said all 39 yatris admitted to SKIMS following the accident were in stable condition and responding well to treatment.
He said directions had been issued to provide the highest standard of medical care and ensure every possible assistance to the injured pilgrims.
The Lieutenant Governor was accompanied by Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Anshul Garg; Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Akshay Labroo; Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, V.K. Birdi, and other senior civil and police officials.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed deep concern over the accident and directed the Health and Medical Education Department to ensure that injured pilgrims don’t face any problems.
The Chief Minister deputed Health and Medical Education Minister Sakina Itoo to SKIMS Soura to personally oversee the treatment of the injured.
Acting on his directions, the Minister visited the hospital, met the injured pilgrims, enquired about their well-being and interacted with the attending doctors and hospital authorities to assess their condition and the treatment being provided.
Sakina Itoo directed the hospital administration to spare no effort in ensuring the best possible medical care and speedy recovery of the injured pilgrims.
The Chief Minister also wished the injured pilgrims a speedy recovery and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to extend every possible assistance to them and their families during this difficult time.
Pertinently, at least 40 Amarnath Yatra pilgrims were injured after the bus they were travelling in skidded off the road and overturned near Ganiwan in Ganderbal district on Tuesday morning. The injured were initially shifted to Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Kangan before being referred to SKIMS Soura for advanced treatment. Officials said 39 pilgrims were admitted to SKIMS, where all were reported to be in stable condition. (KNO)
