Srinagar, July 28: The Centre for Distance & Online Education (CDOE), University of Kashmir (KU) in collaboration with the National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language (NCPUL), New Delhi, commenced a five-day ‘Capacity Building Workshop for Urdu Teachers in the light of NEP 2020’ at the Main Campus.

The workshop, as per a KU statement, has been organised for school Urdu teachers with the objective of enhancing their pedagogical and professional competencies in line with the provisions of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. It aims to familiarise participants with learner-centric teaching approaches, innovative classroom practices, curriculum reforms and the effective use of digital tools in Urdu language education.

In her inaugural address, Vice-Chancellor KU, Prof. Nilofer Khan, emphasized the importance of continuous professional development for teachers in a changing educational landscape.

“The successful implementation of NEP 2020 depends greatly on well-trained teachers who can adapt to evolving pedagogical practices. Workshops of this nature equip educators with the knowledge and skills required to create more engaging and effective learning environments,” she said.

Dean, School of Open Learning KU, Prof. Shahnaz, said that teacher training remains an important component of quality education. She noted that workshops focusing on subject-specific pedagogy contribute to improving classroom instruction and encourage educators to engage with emerging educational approaches.

Assistant Director, NCPUL, Dr. Shama Kausar Yazdani, highlighted the need to equip Urdu teachers with modern teaching techniques while preserving the linguistic and literary richness of the language.

Earlier, Director, CDOE KU, Prof. Mohd Altaf Ahanger, welcomed the participants and provided the objectives of the workshop. He said the programme has been designed to improve the teaching skills of Urdu educators through expert sessions, practical training and discussions on contemporary issues in language education.

The five-day workshop features lectures by subject experts, training sessions, interactive discussions and practical modules on innovative teaching methods, instructional technologies and effective classroom practices for Urdu language teaching.

The proceedings of the inaugural session were conducted by Dr. Mohammad Rafi, faculty member, CDOE, KU, while the vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Showkat Rashid, faculty member, CDOE, KU.
