NCORD Meeting : Facilitate unemployed drug victims access to livelihood opportunities under employment schemes: DC Shopian

SHOPIAN, JULY 29: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shopian, Shishir Gupta Wednesdaychaired the monthly District Level NCORD (Narco Coordination Centre) meeting here at the Mini-Secretariat to review the district’s efforts against drug abuse and narcotics trafficking.

The meeting, as per an official statement, was attended by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shopian, Mushtaq Ahmad Choudhary; ADC, Dr Zakir Hussain Faaz; ACR, Shakoor Ahmad; SDM Zainapora, Bilal Ahmad; CMO, CEO, DIO, CAO, Tehsildars, representatives of enforcement agencies and other members of the District Level NCORD Committee.

During the meeting, the DC reviewed the Action Taken Reports (ATRs) on the decisions taken in the previous NCORD meeting and assessed the progress made by various departments in implementing anti-drug initiatives.

Emphasizing a coordinated and multi-pronged approach to combat the drug menace, the DC directed all stakeholder departments to strengthen awareness campaigns, intensify enforcement measures, monitor vulnerable areas and ensure effective rehabilitation and counselling of affected individuals.

He stressed the importance of close coordination among enforcement agencies, educational institutions, health authorities and civil administration to eradicate drug abuse from the district.

During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner also reviewed the functioning of the District Drug De-addiction Centre. He directed the concerned officers to facilitate unemployed drug victims access to sustainable livelihood and income-generating opportunities under various Government employment schemes.

The meeting concluded with a resolve to further intensify preventive, enforcement and awareness activities across the district, ensuring strict implementation of NCORD guidelines and sustained efforts towards making Shopian a drug-free district.
