DC Kulgam reviews ULBs functioning, performance outcomes, ongoing developmental projects

KULGAM, JULY 30: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kulgam, Shahzad Alam Thursday reviewed the functioning of the Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) of the district, including Municipal Council  Kulgam, Municipal Committees of Devsar, Yaripora and Frisal.

Detailed discussions were held on sanitation, solid waste management, revenue generation, civic amenities, and the progress of various ongoing developmental works of ULBs of the district.

The meeting, as per an official statement, assessed the status of major developmental projects under MC Kulgam, including the establishment of the vending zone at Kulgam, development civic works at Ziyarat Sharief at Kulgam, creation of on-street parking near District Hospital, and other infrastructure works.

The Deputy Commissioner directed the concerned officers to strengthen monitoring mechanisms, improve service delivery, address operational issues on priority, and ensure timely completion of all developmental projects while maintaining quality standards.

A detailed review of the Solid Waste Management system was also undertaken, including the operationalization of trommel machines and corresponding substantial increases in user charges.

The DC directed the concerned officers to ensure optimum utilization of available infrastructure and uninterrupted operation of facilities for scientific processing, segregation and disposal of municipal solid waste.

He emphasized achieving 100 percent door-to-door waste collection, strengthening source segregation, ensuring timely transportation of waste and proper waste disposal, and maintaining regular monitoring for improved sanitation and environmental sustainability.

The progress of the Solid Waste Management (SWM) project at Yaripora, which is nearing completion, was also reviewed. The Deputy Commissioner discussed the proposal for installation of a trommel machine at the Yaripora SWM facility and directed the concerned officers to expedite the necessary formalities for its establishment at the earliest to further strengthen the district’s solid waste management infrastructure.

Ongoing works in MC Frisal and Devsar also came under review and performance outcomes of all municipalities assessed and instructions issued for enhancing the outcomes.

The meeting was also attended by ADC,Vikar Ahmad Giri; CPO, Malik Suheel; EO, MC Kulgam, Mohd.Irfan; EO MC, Frisal, Mohd.Rafiq and other concerned officers and officials.
