Srinagar, Jul 30: Jammu & Kashmir has received two approved and operational cold chain projects under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana (PMKSY) during the last five years, with a total project cost of Rs 18.15 crore and government grant-in-aid of Rs 7.46 crore, the Centre informed the Lok Sabha on Thursday.

According to the Ministry of Food Processing Industries, J&K has 11 completed/operational projects under the Creation/Expansion of Food Processing and Preservation Capacities (CEFPPC) scheme, involving a project cost of Rs 79.81 crore and approved government assistance of Rs 32.91 crore, of which Rs 31.32 crore has been released.

The ministry said the initiatives are aimed at strengthening food processing infrastructure, improving supply-chain management, reducing post-harvest losses and facilitating better market access for farmers. However, it said no specific assessment has so far been undertaken to determine the impact of food processing infrastructure on farmers’ income, value addition, employment generation and reduction of wastage.

The information was provided by Food Processing Industries Minister Chirag Paswan in response to an unstarred question in the Lok Sabha on Thursday—(KNO)
