Awareness programme on drug de-addiction organised in Kokernag

ANANTNAG, AUGUST 05: In alignment with the Lieutenant Governor’s initiative to eradicate the menace of drug abuse and foster a healthier society, the J&K Red Cross through District Red Cross Society, Anantnag, in collaboration with Government Degree College, Kolernag and District Administration, Anantnag organized a high-impact awareness programme Wednesday at the Convocation Hall, GDC Kolernag.

The event brought together administrative authorities, healthcare professionals, law enforcement officers, faculty members, students and volunteers to build a united front against substance abuse.

SDM Kokernag, Parvaiz Rahim was Chief Guest on the occasion who administered Nasha Mukt Pledge to the participants.

Addressing the gathering, the SDM stressed the critical role of community vigilance, law enforcement interventions, and youth leadership in combating the drug addiction. He called the fight against the drug abuse a collective endeavour requiring sustained efforts of all stakeholders to achieve desired results.

Briefing about the role of Red Cross in combating drug abuse, Ghulam Ahmad Qureshi, Honorary Treasurer J&K Red Cross, informed that a series of such programs are being organised across J&K UT to sensitise youth and vulnerable sections about drug addiction and it’s harmful effects on the society.

Principal GDC Kolernag, Gulam Abas, also spoke on the occasion and impressed upon the students and volunteers to create on ground awareness on ill effects of drug abuse so that the younger generation stays away from it’s devastating influence.

The proceedings featured an extensive awareness session delivered by Dr. Aafaq Haider and other experts from department of Psychiatry, Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag, providing in-depth insights into the physical, psychological, and social ramifications of drug addiction, alongside available pathways for rehabilitation and support. To equip participants with essential emergency medical skills, they also conducted a live demonstration and hands-on training session on Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).

Additionally, audio-visual documentaries showcasing preventive strategies, early warning signs, and social support mechanisms were presented for general information of students.

The programme concluded on a strong note, with participating line departments, civil society members, and college stakeholders reiterating their shared commitment to driving long-term awareness for establishing a drug-free society.
