SRINAGAR, AUGUST 05: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Jammu & Kashmir, conducted inspection and sampling drive across the Union Territory to ensure compliance with the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
During the drive, 175 inspections were conducted across the districts of J&K. A total of 142 food samples were collected including 88 samples of prepared food, particularly meat and meat products served in restaurants and hotels, and 54 samples of sweets collected from sweet manufacturing units and retail sale outlets for testing of quality and safety parameters.
The inspection teams, as per an official statement, also verified compliance with food safety, hygiene, sanitation and storage requirements at the inspected establishments.
Further, during the inspections, four Improvement Notices were issued to Food Business Operators for deviating in sanitary and hygienic conditions. Seven Food Business Operators were compounded under Section 69 of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and a penalty of ₹11,000 was realized.
Legal action has also been initiated against Food Business Operators found violating the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and the Rules and Regulations.
