BUDGAM, AUGUST 08: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Budgam, Athar Aamir Khan, Saturday said that the digital integration of artisans including specially-abled craftsmen is opening new economic opportunities for craftsmen and is strengthening the handicrafts sector in Jammu and Kashmir.
He said this while appreciating the “Training on Digital Literacy & Market Readiness” programme organised at Town Hall, Budgam, describing it as an inspiring example of convergence aimed at empowering the artisan community.
The training was organised in collaboration with Special Hands of Kashmir under Artisan 2.0, a Conserve initiative for Artisans of Kashmir.
Addressing the participants, the Deputy Commissioner said the future of handicrafts is bright, asserting traditional craftsmanship is effectively integrated with technology and modern market practices.
“The digital integration will ensure artisans and weavers get better and rightful economic opportunities for their dedication and hard work against growing demand and value for quality handmade products,” the DC observed.
He said digital platforms have enabled artisans to showcase their products from their homes along with its information, interact directly with customers and access markets beyond geographical boundaries.
Appreciating digital handicraft platforms, the Deputy Commissioner said, “digital tools can help craftsmen understand market trends, emerging designs, production techniques and changing consumer preferences while retaining the authenticity of their traditional work.” He also appreciated buyer-seller meets, interactive market programmes and quality awareness initiatives to bring artisans closer to buyers and help them respond to evolving market requirements.
On the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner also appreciated the participation and achievements of specially-abled artisans, he said their creativity, skills and determination demonstrate the potential of handicrafts to create meaningful economic opportunities and promote social empowerment.
The DC said District Administration is committed to support initiatives that enhance artisans’ skills, livelihoods and market access, while promoting sustainable growth of the handicrafts sector.
