DC Srinagar lays foundation stone for Additional Accommodation Block at Zila Sainik Bhawan

Additional Facility to enhance welfare service for wards of ex-servicemen, war widows, martyrs & their families, besides providing Skill Development opportunities

SRINAGAR, AUGUST 22: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Akshay Labroo, who is also the President, Zila Sainik Welfare Board Saturday laid the foundation stone for the construction of an Additional Accommodation Block at Zila Sainik Bhawan in presence of Director Sainik Welfare Department, J&K, Brigadier Pankaj Chib, SM, VSM.

The proposed block, as per an official statement, is aimed at strengthening the existing infrastructure of Zila Sainik Bhawan and providing additional accommodation and welfare facilities for ex-servicemen, war widows, serving personnel and their families from across the districts of the Kashmir Division.

Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner highlighted the commitment of District Administration Srinagar towards the welfare and safe and comfortable accommodation for ex-servicemen and their dependents. He emphasized the need to ensure accessible and adequate support to members of the armed forces community through dedicated welfare infrastructure.

The DC said that the additional accommodation block will enhance the accommodation capacity of Zila Sainik Bhawan and facilitate better delivery of various welfare services to eligible beneficiaries, particularly wards of ex-servicemen and martyrs who temporarily stay in Srinagar for educational purposes.

He further stressed the need to incorporate a Skill Development Training Centre in the proposed block to impart skill-based training to wards of ex-servicemen and martyrs, besides local students, thereby enhancing their employability and self-reliance.

On the occasion, the DC appreciated the efforts of the concerned Officers, including the Chief Planning Officer Srinagar, Superintending Engineer R&B, Executive Engineer R&B and the Zila Sainik Welfare Board, for their dedicated efforts in accelerating and completing various projects at Zila Sainik Bhawan, including the parking shed and solarisation.

The DC also mentioned that 100 beded hostel for wards of ex-servicemen and martyrs has already been completed at Peerbagh and urged the Zila Sainik Welfare Board to take necessary steps for its early operationalisation so that the intended beneficiaries can avail benefit of the facility.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Mir Imtiyaz Ul Aziz, Additional Deputy Commissioner Aadil Fareed, IAS Probationer Aakash Garg, Chief Planning Officer, Fayaz Ahmad Dar, Superintending Engineer, R&B North, Shabir Ahmad, Executive Engineer R&B Karan Nagar Division, Abdul Qayoom, District Social Welfare Officer, Mohammad Yousuf, Tehsildar South, Sajad Rasool Shah and senior official of Zila Sainik Bhawan including Abdul Rasid War were present on the occasion.

A number of ex-servicemen, war widows, veterans and family members from various districts of the Kashmir Division also attended the event.
