SRINAGAR, AUGUST 27: The Jammu & Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Institute (JKEDI) organised a series of Startup Idea Challenge 2.0 and Junior-Level Idea Challenge boot camps across Jammu and Kashmir from August 24-27, 2026 as part of its ongoing efforts to foster innovation, entrepreneurship and a startup culture among the youth.

The programmes, as per an official statement, were held at Government Degree College for Women, Pulwama; Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Amira Kadal, Srinagar; NIPS, Zainapora, Shopian; Government Degree College, Kulgam; Government Degree College, Sopore; and Government College for Women, Parade, Jammu. The initiatives were conducted under the J&K Startup Policy 2024–27, offering students and aspiring entrepreneurs a platform to present innovative ideas, seek expert guidance and explore pathways to transform their concepts into viable startup ventures.

More than 45 participants pitched their ideas before a jury, which encouraged them to further develop and pursue their innovative concepts. The ideas covered diverse areas, including sustainable Waste Management, AI, Agriculture and other emerging sectors.

Innovation was a key focus of the boot camps, with participants encouraged to think creatively, identify local challenges and develop practical solutions with the potential for wider social and economic impact. The sessions highlighted the importance of innovation in turning ideas into sustainable enterprises and creating new opportunities for employment, growth and community development.

The participants also interacted with academics, banking officials and entrepreneurs, gaining valuable insights into entrepreneurship, business development and the practical challenges faced by startups. Experts provided feedback on refining and validating their ideas and offered guidance on developing them into sustainable business ventures.Interactive question-and-answer sessions were also conducted during the boot camps, enabling participants to clarify their concerns and gain a better understanding of real-world issues associated with establishing and running enterprises.

The boot camps further familiarised participants with the provisions and opportunities available under the J&K Startup Policy, while providing exposure to mentorship, idea validation, incubation and other forms of startup support.

JKEDI reiterated its commitment to promoting innovation and entrepreneurship at the grassroots level and strengthening a supportive ecosystem for youth-led startups across Jammu and Kashmir.
