Srinagar records maximum of 33.5°C; Jammu settles at 34.6°C
Srinagar, Aug 28: Weather remained largely dry across Jammu and Kashmir on Friday, with Srinagar recording a maximum temperature of 33.5 degrees Celsius, 4.2 degrees above normal.
According to the India Meteorological Department data accessed by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) the minimum temperature in Srinagar was recorded at 18.3 degrees Celsius, 1.6 degrees above normal, while no rainfall was recorded in the city during the past 24 hours. Qazigund recorded a maximum temperature of 32.6 degrees Celsius, 5.4 degrees above normal, while Pahalgam recorded 27.3 degrees Celsius, 2.6 degrees above normal. Kupwara recorded a high of 33.5 degrees Celsius, followed by Kokernag at 31 degrees Celsius and Gulmarg at 23.8 degrees Celsius.
In the Jammu region, Jammu city recorded a maximum temperature of 34.6 degrees Celsius, 1.6 degrees above normal. Katra recorded 32.5 degrees, while Banihal and Batote recorded 30.4 and 28.1 degrees Celsius, respectively.
The IMD forecast mostly fine weather across Jammu and Kashmir on August 29 and 30, though isolated areas, particularly in the Jammu region, may receive thundershowers.
From August 31 to September 2, there is a possibility of thundershowers at some places in Jammu and Kashmir, but the weather is expected to remain dry for most of the period. No major wet spell is expected, the forecast said.
However, high-intensity showers are possible at a few places during August 31-September 2, leading to a possibility of flash floods, it said.
Mostly fine weather is expected on September 3 and 4, with isolated thundershowers possible, particularly during the early morning and late afternoon hours. The forecast for these dates remains uncertain and may undergo changes, the IMD said.
The weather advisory also suggested orchard spraying in parts of Kashmir on August 29 and during morning hours on August 30. Spraying has been advised against from August 31 to September 2 due to the possibility of thundershowers.
The weather office advised people, particularly those in vulnerable areas, to remain alert to the possibility of flash floods during the period of intense showers. (KNO)
