SHOPIAN, AUGUST 31: An awareness programme on the ill-effects of drug abuse and illicit trafficking, with special emphasis on the harmful effects of tobacco products, was organised Monday at GDC Shopian as part of the ongoing efforts to promote a drug-free society and sensitise students about the serious health and social consequences of substance abuse.
The programme witnessed active participation of students, teaching faculty, college staff and other stakeholders. The event focused on creating awareness among young people about the dangers associated with drug abuse, tobacco consumption and other harmful substances, while encouraging them to adopt healthy and responsible lifestyles.
Dr. Ishrat Jabeen and Dr. Aadil Farooq, Medical Officers, also addressed the participants and elaborated on the adverse health consequences of drug and tobacco use. They highlighted the physical and psychological impact of substance abuse and urged students to remain informed about the long-term risks associated with tobacco products and other addictive substances.
Abhishek Sharma, Sub-Inspector, Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Srinagar, addressed the gathering and sensitised the students about the menace of drug abuse and illicit trafficking. He highlighted the importance of awareness, vigilance and collective community participation in preventing substance abuse, particularly among the youth.
The programme also emphasised the need for sustained awareness campaigns, student engagement and coordinated efforts among educational institutions, health authorities, law-enforcement agencies and the community to effectively address the growing challenges associated with substance abuse.
