MeT predicts more showers across Valley
Srinagar, Sep 01: Rainfall lashed parts of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday, while the Meteorological Centre here predicted intermittent rain across more areas of the Valley on Wednesday.
According to the details available with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) fresh showers were reported in Pahalgam, Shopian, Kulgam, Pulwama, Bandipora and parts of Budgam and Kupwara, while many areas of the Jammu division also received rainfall.
The Meteorological Centre stated that Katra recorded the highest rainfall in the Union Territory in the past 24 hours at 62 mm, followed by Kathua AWS at 73 mm, Poonch at 38.5 mm and Udhampur at 27 mm.
Other rainfall recorded at automatic weather stations included Samba 11 mm, Bandipora 0 mm, Pulwama 5.5 mm, Ganderbal 2.5 mm, Anantnag 2 mm, Reasi 21 mm, Rajouri 10.5 mm, Kathua 60.2 mm, Kishtwar nil, Doda 0.5 mm and Kulgam 0.5 mm.
In Kashmir, Srinagar recorded 0.3 mm rainfall, while Qazigund received 6.4 mm, Gulmarg 1 mm and Konibal 3 mm. No rainfall was recorded at Pahalgam, Kupwara and Kukernag during the 24-hour period covered by the weather bulletin.
Srinagar recorded a maximum temperature of 33 degrees Celsius, which was 4.1 degrees above normal, while the minimum temperature settled at 20.9 degrees Celsius, nearly five degrees above normal.
Qazigund recorded a maximum of 31.2 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 18.6 degrees, while Pahalgam recorded 27.6 degrees and 17.5 degrees, respectively.
Kupwara recorded a maximum temperature of 33.2 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 18.4 degrees, while Kukernag recorded 31.4 degrees and 18.2 degrees.
Gulmarg, one of the cooler stations in Kashmir, recorded a maximum of 22.2 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 12.2 degrees, while Konibal recorded 33.2 degrees and 19.4 degrees.
In the Jammu division, Jammu city recorded a maximum temperature of 33.9 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 25.2 degrees, while Banihal recorded 29.6 degrees and 20.5 degrees.
Batote recorded a maximum of 28.2 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 19.1 degrees, Katra 29.1 degrees and 22.6 degrees, Bhaderwah 30 degrees and 18.2 degrees, and Kathua 34.8 degrees and 23.4 degrees.
Among the AWS stations, Jammu recorded a maximum of 34.1 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 26.9 degrees, while Udhampur recorded 33.6 degrees and 24 degrees. Samba recorded 32 degrees and 24.9 degrees, Ramban 28.5 degrees and 21 degrees, and Poonch 33.4 degrees and 20.6 degrees.
In Kashmir, AWS data showed Srinagar at 32.4 degrees Celsius maximum and 20.2 degrees minimum, Awantipora at 32.4 and 19.6 degrees, Budgam at 31 degrees and 20.1 degrees, Baramulla at 30 degrees and 18.7 degrees, Bandipora at 32.4 degrees and 20.1 degrees, Pulwama at 32.7 degrees and 19.1 degrees, Shopian at 31.8 degrees and 17.5 degrees, Kulgam at 29.6 degrees and 18.3 degrees, Ganderbal at 30.5 degrees and 18.8 degrees, and Sonamarg at 25.1 degrees and 14.9 degrees.
The weather department forecast that on September 2, generally cloudy weather would prevail, with one or two spells of light to moderate rain or thundershowers at many places. Brief intense to heavy showers are likely in the Jammu division towards the early morning and late afternoon/evening hours.
On September 3, the weather is expected to remain generally dry, with brief showers at a few places.
On September 4, light to moderate rain and thundershowers are likely at many places, accompanied by brief intense showers.
From September 5 to 12, generally dry weather is expected, although brief spells of rain or thundershowers may occur at isolated to scattered places, particularly during the early morning and afternoon hours.
The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has cautioned that brief intense showers at localised places during September 1 and 2 could trigger flash floods, mudslides and landslides.
It advised people to remain cautious in vulnerable areas, while farmers have been advised that they may continue harvesting and other agricultural operations.
The weather bulletin said the maximum rainfall during the past 24 hours was recorded at Katra at 62 mm among the regular meteorological stations, while the AWS network recorded 73 mm at Kathua. (KNO)
