Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Baramulla, Syed Altaf Hussain Musavi, was the Chief Guest on the occasion. The workshop brought together healthcare professionals and public health workers with the objective of creating awareness about the early identification, screening, diagnosis and counselling of genetic and metabolic disorders among pregnant mothers and newborns.

Speaking on the occasion, ADC Baramulla, as per an official statement, highlighted the importance of early screening and timely diagnosis of genetic and metabolic disorders, saying that early identification can facilitate appropriate intervention and counselling, thereby contributing towards a healthier future for children and families.

He appreciated the efforts of SKIMS Soura and the health department for organising the awareness-oriented programme and stressed the need for strengthening coordination between healthcare institutions and field-level health workers for effective implementation of genetic screening initiatives.

An interactive session was also held during the workshop, wherein participants engaged with the experts and discussed various aspects related to genetic and metabolic disorders, screening procedures, identification of high-risk cases and counselling.

Experts from SKIMS Soura and GMC Baramulla delivered presentations and shared their expertise with the participants.

The workshop was aimed at enhancing the capacity of public health workers in identifying pregnant mothers and newborns requiring screening for genetic and metabolic disorders and ensuring timely referral for further diagnosis and management.

During the programme, Awards of Appreciation were also presented to Block Medical Officers, participants, healthcare workers in recognition of their contribution and active participation in promoting awareness and early screening of genetic and metabolic disorders.

The programme was attended by Block Medical Officers, doctors, public health workers and other stakeholders.
