KULGAM, SEPTEMBER 21: A review meeting on the implementation of Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026 was held Monday at Kulgam and was presided over by the District Development Commissioner (DDC), Shahzad Alam.
The meeting, as per an official statement, was convened to assess the progress made by various departments and Urban Local Bodies towards effective solid waste management and to identify areas requiring further improvement.
The officers of the concerned RDD and Executive Officers of all Municipal Council/Committees apprised the meeting of the latest status, achievements, ongoing activities and issues requiring intervention.
Important aspects of solid waste management, including registration and management of Bulk Waste Generators, inspection and functioning of Waste Processing Plants, four-way segregation of waste at source and the status of retrofitting of door-to-door collection vehicles, implementation of the Single-Use Plastic Portal and enforcement of penalties against violations and seized plastic, capacity-building programmes and preparedness for implementation of the SWM Rules, 2026 were reviewed in the meeting.
The DDC stressed the need for strict enforcement of rules, source segregation, efficient door-to-door collection, scientific processing and disposal of waste, besides strengthening coordination between Urban Local Bodies and Rural development.
The meeting was attended by ACD, Bilal Ahmad Kamgar; CPO, Malik Suhail; CEO MC Kulgam, Mohammad Irfan, BDO’s and other officers and representatives of MCs.
