6 hours cut for over 40% losses, 3 hours for 15-40%, no curtailment under 15%
Srinagar, Sep 24: The Power Development Department (PDD) is enforcing 6 hours of daily forced power cuts in the areas having Aggregate Technical & Commercial (AT&C) losses of over 40 percent.
Furthermore, the areas having an AT&C losses of 15-40 percent faces a power curtailment of three hours. However, the government further said that the feeders having losses less than 15 percent face no curtailment.
According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the government in a reply to a question tabled by Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Legislative Assembly said, “JKPDD is presently enforcing Load Curtailment Programme based on the Loss level of the feeders with no curtailment on feeder having less than 15 percent losses, 3 hours for feeders with 15-40 percent losses and 6 hours curtailment on feeder with above 40 percent losses.”
“The areas and the feeders experiencing frequent interruptions, low voltage or inadequate power supply are being identified and monitored by the concerned field officers based on feeder performance, loading conditions, consumer complaints and field reports,” the government said.
It also informed the house that the situation is particularly reviewed during peak summer and winter demand and in remote and hilly areas where difficult terrain and weather conditions may affect supply reliability.
“To address these issues, PDD is implementing RDSS works for strengthening and upgradation of the distribution network, including replacement of old and worn-out conductors with AB Cable, augmentation of undersized conductors, and replacement, augmentation of overloaded and aged Distribution Transformers,” the government informed the house.
It also said that PDD has taken various measures for augmentation and strengthening of the Distribution System across UT of J&K to ensure reliable and uninterrupted power supply through centrally sponsored scheme RDSS and UT Capex. (KNO)
