Cumulative revenue gap tops Rs 13,600 crore
Srinagar, Sep 28: Jammu and Kashmir Power Development Department (PDD) in past three years have spent Rs 28018 crores to procure 63080.62 million units (MU) of electricity, yet local DISCOMs accumulated a revenue deficit exceeding Rs 13,600 crore across the same period.
According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the government in a reply to the query of MLA Mohan Lal Bhagat in a Legislative Assembly said that in the year 2023-24 at least Rs 9453 crore was incurred to procure 20,985.70 Million Units (MU) of power.
It also informed the house that in the year 2024-25, the government incurred Rs 9088 crore to procure 21,159.40 MU of power and Rs 9477 crore in 2025-26 to procure 20,935.50 MU of power.
The official figures however reveal that in the year 2023-24, there was a revenue gap of Rs 5238 crores followed by Rs 4198 crore in 2024-25 and 4177 in the year 2025-26.
Furthermore, the government informed the house that during the year 2023-24, Jammu and Kashmir was facing T&D losses of 41.68 percent and 38.06 percent of AT&C losses.
It also said that in the year 2023-24, the department was facing T&D losses of 28.99 percent and 32.04 percent of AT&C losses followed by 24.64 percent of T&C losses and 34.63 percent of AT&C losses in the year 2025-26 respectively.
Answering the queries regarding as to additional power stands purchased during 2024-25 to 2026-27 for Jammu and Kashmir Divisions during peak summer and winter, the government informed the house that the additional power has been purchased during peak summer and winter to meet the power demand of both regions as per the seasonal requirements.
“The power supply in the UT of J&K is met through the allocation of power from various CPSUs by Ministry of Power, Gol & generation from State owned power stations for which PPAs stand executed,” the government said.
It also informed the house that the allocation of power from CPSUs is revised by MoP, from time to time keeping in view the demand. Availability and generation scenario.
“The power procured for UT of J&K is as per the allocated quantum and as per the tariff determined by CERC and JERC. The energy is further scheduled to both the divisions as per the seasonal requirement of both regions,” the government said. (KNO)
