Chugh targets NC over statehood

Jammu, Oct 03: BJP National General Secretary (Organisation) BL Santhosh on Saturday said organisational responsibilities may change, but the core duties and commitment of party workers remain unchanged.

Addressing a Samman Samaroh at the BJP headquarters to honour Tarun Chugh and Ashok Koul for their organisational contributions, Santhosh said workers should remain committed to the larger organisational mission rather than individuals or positions.

Congratulating Chugh and Koul, he said organisational responsibilities help individuals gain experience and leadership skills. He also praised Koul’s long association with the RSS and his work in J&K.

Chugh, now BJP National Office Prabhari and Gujarat Prabhari, said BJP workers had made sacrifices during difficult periods in J&K and credited the Narendra Modi government with putting the Union Territory on the path of development.

He described Koul as a key force behind the BJP’s organisational expansion in Jammu and Kashmir.

In a separate statement, Chugh criticised the Omar Abdullah-led National Conference government over the proposed statehood resolution, alleging it was being used to divert attention from governance issues.

He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had already committed in Parliament to restoring J&K’s statehood and urged the government to focus on jobs, development and delivery of electoral promises.

“Omar Abdullah should stop talking about irrelevant issues and present his government’s report card. People are waiting for answers on jobs, development and the promises made to them,” Chugh said.

Asserting that J&K had moved beyond the politics of the 1990s, he cautioned against what he termed separatist politics and said the BJP would continue to function as a strong and constructive Opposition in the Assembly.

On the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, Chugh said the exercise was necessary to maintain electoral integrity and questioned Congress’ opposition to it.

Among those present at the function were J&K BJP president Sat Sharma, Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh, Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma and MPs Jugal Kishore Sharma and Ghulam Ali Khatana.

Koul, who has returned to the RSS after serving 14 years as J&K BJP General Secretary (Organisation), recalled his organisational journey and urged workers to cultivate patience, courage and perseverance.

The programme also marked Reena Kashyap’s assumption of charge as J&K BJP Seh-Prabhari—(KNO)
