The vehicles, as per an official statement, were formally inducted into the fleet of the Jal Shakti Department during a flag-off ceremony held at the Office of the Executive Engineer Water Works Division, Srinagar.

Ambreen Anjum, Executive Engineer, Water Works Division, Aijaz Rafiq, and other Officers and Officials were present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, the DC said that the three water tankers, comprising one vehicle with a capacity of 6,000 litres and two with capacities of 5,000 litres each, had been procured at a cost of Rs 72 lakh through convergence of various schemes and funds at district level in coordination with Jal Shakti  Department through the convergence of district-level funds.

He said the addition of these vehicles would significantly enhance the district’s capacity to address drinking water deficit in tail end areas, particularly during the peak season and facilitate the provision of water in areas wherever the need arises.

Emphasising the need for efficient deployment of the tankers, the DC directed that the vehicles be utilised optimally to ensure the supply of safe and adequate drinking water to consumers, especially in tail-end areas where water supply constraints are more pronounced.

The DC further observed that every water tanker makes a significant change during the peak season and expressed confidence that the newly inducted vehicles would help improve water supply services and bridge gaps in service delivery across the District.
