Srinagar, Oct 16: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a Ward Officer of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), Safa Kadal, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of rupees 10,000, the agency said on Friday.

In a statement, a spokesperson said the CBI said it registered a case on October 15, 2026, based on a complaint alleging that the accused had demanded rupees 10,000 to allow the continuation of minor renovation work at the complainant’s residence.

The agency said it laid a trap on October 15 and caught the accused red-handed while allegedly demanding and accepting the bribe amount from the complainant.

The accused has been arrested, while further investigation into the case is in progress, the statement added.

The CBI urged citizens in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh to report instances of corruption or demands for bribes by public officials. It said complaints can be lodged at the CBI Anti-Corruption Branch office at Guest House No. 6, near MLA Hostel, MA Road, Srinagar, or by calling 9419900977 or emailing: [email protected]—(KNO)
