KUPWARA, OCTOBER 21: Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC) Kupwara, Ghulam Rasool Wednesday chaired a meeting of the concerned officers to review the preparations for the celebration of Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas (JJGD) 2026, scheduled to be observed from November 1 to November 15 across the district.

During the meeting, the ADDC, as per an official statement, emphasized the importance of celebrating Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas with active participation from all concerned departments and stakeholders to highlight the rich cultural heritage, traditions, achievements and invaluable contributions of tribal communities to the nation. He directed the officers to work in close coordination and ensure the timely completion of all preparatory arrangements for the successful conduct of the celebrations.

The ADDC stressed the need to organize meaningful and inclusive activities, particularly in educational institutions, hostels and residential institutions, to create awareness among students and the general public about the legacy of Bhagwan Birsa Munda and other tribal freedom fighters who played a significant role in India’s freedom struggle.

As part of the proposed celebrations, the meeting discussed the organization of floral tribute ceremonies in honour of Bhagwan Birsa Munda and other tribal freedom fighters. It was also emphasized that age-appropriate training sessions and workshops be conducted to promote awareness about tribal art, dance, music, handicrafts, customs and cultural traditions, while highlighting the significant contributions of tribal communities to Indian society.

The ADDC further called for recognizing and honouring distinguished tribal achievers, including outstanding tribal scholars and other accomplished personalities, whose achievements serve as an inspiration for younger generations.

Emphasis was also laid on encouraging students to participate in community outreach initiatives involving tribal communities. These activities will include Swachhata drives, plantation campaigns, the Each One, Teach One initiative, and encouraging enrolment in NSS, NCC, MyBharat and other community-oriented programmes. The initiatives are aimed at fostering social responsibility, civic engagement and a spirit of volunteerism among students.

The ADDC directed the concerned departments to ensure adequate logistical support, effective coordination and proper arrangements for the smooth conduct of all scheduled activities. He underscored the need for a coordinated approach among departments to ensure that the celebrations are conducted in an organized and impactful manner, reaching the maximum number of beneficiaries.

The meeting was attended by the Assistant Commissioner Development (ACD), Kupwara; Chief Medical Officer (CMO); Chief Horticulture Officer (CHO); Lead District Manager (LDM); and other concerned officers and officials.
