Turns wedding dreams into ashes

Bandipora, Nov 06: A massive fire rendered three families homeless at Quilmuqam village in North Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Friday.

According to the details available, the blaze caused extensive damage to the houses, leaving the affected families with little of their belongings. “Among victims was a family preparing for their daughter’s wedding. Fire destroyed clothes, household items and other arrangements that were made for the occasion,” said a resident.

“What was meant to be a joyous occasion for the family has now turned into a period of distress, as the wedding preparations they had made over time were reduced to ashes along with their home,” he added.

The blaze also engulfed a cowshed, causing further losses to the affected households.

Soon after the fire broke out, local residents rushed to the spot and joined Jammu and Kashmir Police personnel and Indian Army soldiers in efforts to bring the flames under control and prevent them from spreading to nearby structures.

The incident left the affected families devastated, with residents expressing concern over the loss of shelter and household belongings, particularly for the family whose daughter’s wedding is approaching.

Locals have appealed to the district administration to assess the losses and provide immediate financial assistance, temporary shelter and rehabilitation support to the affected families.

They said the family facing the upcoming wedding needed urgent assistance to overcome the losses and make arrangements for the occasion.

The cause of the fire and the exact extent of the damage were not immediately known—(KNO)
