Srinagar, Mar 15: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference President Dr Farooq Abdullah and Vice President and CM Omar Abdullah have extended warm greetings to the people of Jammu and Kashmir on the auspicious occasions of Shab-e-Qadr and the annual Urs of the revered Patron saint of Kashmir Hazrat Alamdar-e-Kashmir, Sheikh-ul-Alam, Sheikh-Nur Ud Din Noorani (RA), affectionately known as Nund Resh (RA).
In his message, Dr Farooq said that Shab-e-Qadr, one of the holiest nights in Islam, symbolizes reflection, compassion, humility and devotion to Almighty Allah. He prayed that the blessed occasion would bring peace, prosperity and harmony to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
“Shab-e-Qadr is a night of immense spiritual significance, reminding us of the power of prayer, forgiveness and compassion. On this sacred occasion, I pray for peace, prosperity and unity among the people and for lasting stability in Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.
Referring to the Urs of Sheikh-ul-Alam (RA), Dr Farooq said that the teachings and poetry of the great saint continue to guide society towards the values of humility, justice, tolerance and spiritual awakening.
“Sheikh-ul-Alam (RA), also known as Nund Rishi, was not only a great spiritual guide but also a profound mystical poet whose shruks carried powerful messages about life, faith and social equality. Through his simple yet deeply philosophical verses in Kashmiri, he reminded people about the impermanence of life and the need to rise above ego and worldly divisions,” Dr Farooq said.
“He consistently preached unity, condemned caste discrimination, hypocrisy and communal divisions and called for equality before God. His message of love, humility and social justice remains as relevant today as it was centuries ago,” he added.
Omar Abdullah also extended his greetings to the people and said that both Shab-e-Qadr and the Urs of Sheikh-ul-Alam (RA) hold immense spiritual and cultural importance for the people of Kashmir.
“Shab-e-Qadr is a moment for deep reflection and prayer, reminding us to strengthen our faith and renew our commitment to compassion, humility and service to humanity,” Omar Abdullah said.
Highlighting the legacy of Sheikh-ul-Alam (RA), Omar Abdullah said that the saint’s teachings and poetry continue to inspire generations.
“Sheikh-ul-Alam (RA) used simple Kashmiri verses to communicate profound spiritual and ethical ideas, urging people to reflect on the fleeting nature of life and the importance of overcoming ego and injustice. His message promoted harmony, equality and respect among communities, which remains essential for building a peaceful and inclusive society,” he said.
The duo prayed that the sacred occasions would bring peace, prosperity and greater unity among the people and inspire society to follow the timeless teachings of compassion, humility and brotherhood propagated by Sheikh-ul-Alam (RA).
