District Ganderbal strengthens anti-drug measures at NCORD meeting

GANDERBAL, APRIL 27: As part of the Nasha Mukt Abhiyan (NMBA @100), a meeting of the District Level Committee under the Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) mechanism was convened Monday here, under the chairmanship of the Senior Superintendent of Police Ganderbal, Sudhanshu Dhama, and Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Ganderbal, Syed Faheem Bihaqi to review and reinforce anti-drug initiatives across the district.

A comprehensive review of ongoing enforcement measures, awareness campaigns, and rehabilitation efforts was undertaken, with emphasis on coordinated action among departments.

On the enforcement front, the Drug Control Department, Excise department reported enhanced surveillance and regular inspections, besides strict action against violations, including suspension of licences and initiation of legal proceedings in coordination with concerned departments.

During the meeting, progress of drug de-addiction and rehabilitation efforts was also reviewed. Authorities directed the concerned to intensify outreach and ensure that victims requiring assistance are brought into structured treatment programmes at the earliest, with a focus on inclusive care.

The meeting also stressed intensifying joint nakas alongwith police to lay curbs on transportation of contraband substances through courier services, and departments have been instructed to maintain sustained vigilance and enforcement at such locations.

In the education sector, significant progress has been made in strengthening surveillance infrastructure across institutions. The remaining institutions have been directed to complete installation of CCTV systems without delay. CEO informed that regular parent-teacher engagements are also being held to sensitise families and students about the dangers of drug abuse.

The District Social Welfare Office highlighted its ongoing awareness initiatives under the Nasha Mukt Abhiyan, including community outreach, wall painting campaigns, and daily sensitisation drives.

The meeting further reviewed implementation of provisions under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA). Enforcement drives against tobacco vendors are underway, with instructions issued to ensure sustained compliance through regular monitoring rather than isolated actions.

On declaration of Nasha Mukt Panchayats and Wards, it was informed that focused efforts are being made to ensure more such panchayats and Wards are declared Nasha Mukt through sustained awareness campaigns, community engagement, and coordinated enforcement measures.

The meeting witnessed participation from Assistant Commissioner Panchayat, Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Sub-divisional Magistrate Kangan, Deputy Director Prosecution, Deputy Director Drug Control Department, Chief Medical Officer, Chief Education Officer, Assistant Regional Transport Officer and other senior officers of the police, excise, health, revenue, and social welfare departments, along with other key stakeholders.
