Srinagar, May 05: A teenage student from North Kashmir’s Rafiabad in Baramulla district has emerged as a major social media sensation after his singing reel crossed 42.7 million views within nine days, drawing attention from established artists and digital influencers.

Rasik Ahmad Meer,15, from Hatchepora village, shot to fame after uploading a cover of a Bollywood track that rapidly went viral on Instagram. The video, recorded on a smartphone without professional setup, has now placed the young singer in the spotlight.

The reel caught the attention of Punjabi singer Jasmine Sandlas, who reacted to the performance online. It also drew engagement from digital personalities such as Aly Goni and Simmi Chahal, amplifying its reach further.

Rasik had been consistently posting singing reels despite limited response. His earlier uploads failed to gain traction, but persistence paid off when his latest performance struck a chord with viewers.

“I did not expect this response. I was just posting regularly and learning,” Rasik told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), adding that the support from his family, especially his elder brother, played a key role in keeping him motivated.

Despite the sudden fame, Rasik says his focus remains on studies while he continues to nurture his interest in music. He aspires to perform on a national platforms like Indian Idol and represent Kashmir.

His rise comes at a time when Kashmir’s cultural link with the entertainment industry is witnessing renewed momentum. Over the past few years, film shoots have resumed in the Valley and cinema infrastructure has seen revival.

Earlier, Faheem Abdullah and Arslan Nizami made a mark with film projects, indicating a growing presence of Kashmiri talent in mainstream music, now, Rasik’s viral success adds another chapter to this trend. (KNO)
