DC Srinagar inspects civic infrastructure in Shahr-e-Khaas areas

Listens to public issues, dev demands; assures prompt, time-bound redressal

Srinagar, May 20: Continuing the public outreach initiatives of the District Administration, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Akshay Labroo on Wednesday conducted a Mega Public Grievance Redressal Camp at Anchar Soura in Eidgah Tehsil of the District to listen to public grievances and assess local developmental demands at the grassroots level under the weekly Block Diwas programme.

The Deputy Commissioner also visited Shahr-e-Khaas areas of the City to take firsthand appraisal of various issues regarding augmentation of civic amenities and developmental concerns of the local population.

The grievance redressal camp at Anchar Soura witnessed participation of a large number of residents from Anchar, Jenab Sahib Soura, Taploo Mohalla, Manz Mohalla, Bohlochipora and adjoining areas, who put forth various issues and developmental demands of the area, particularly with regard to augmentation of civic amenities, upgradation of infrastructure and other local concerns.

The programme was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Aadil Fareed, Joint Commissioner SMC, Nuzhat Qureshi, IAS Probationer Alfred Thomas, Chief Planning Officer Fayaz Ahmad Dar, Superintending Engineer R&B Shabir Ahmad, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Tahir Sajad, District Social Welfare Officer Mohammad Yousuf, Dy CEO Anjuma Raja, Executive Engineer R&B Umar Hazari, Executive Engineer PDD Abrar Hussain, Executive Engineer Water Works Aijaz Rafiq, Tehsildar Eidgah Mohammad Iqbal and other District and Sectoral Officers.

During the interaction, various individuals projected several developmental issues and public demands before the Deputy Commissioner. The demands included augmentation of drinking water supply, construction of a Community Facilitation Centre (CFC), conservation of Anchar Lake, macadamization of internal link roads, development of the foreshore road from Bohlochipora to Umerhair Buchpora along Anchar Lake, installation of a JK Bank ATM, upgradation of health facilities and other developmental concerns of the area.

Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Commissioner stated that the District Administration is organizing such grievance redressal camps to obtain firsthand appraisal of local issues and ensure their timely and effective resolution through on-ground assessment and subsequent follow-ups.

Responding to the public demands, the Deputy Commissioner assured the residents that all genuine issues projected during the programme would be addressed on priority.

Regarding augmentation of drinking water supply, the Deputy Commissioner informed that work on a 50 Gallon Over Head Tank (OHT) has already been taken up to address water scarcity in the area. He directed the concerned Engineers to expedite the process and ensure early completion of the project for the benefit of the local population.

On the issue of conservation of Anchar Lake, the DC assured that a comprehensive action plan would be formulated in consultation with all line departments to undertake effective conservation measures for the lake.

The DC also stated that a project worth Rs 1.50 crore has been approved for renovation and upgradation of the Shrine of Jenab Sahib Soura under heritage conservation programme to preserve its historical significance.

During the programme, local residents appreciated the District Administration for conducting the outreach programme in the area and bringing governance and grievance redressal mechanisms to the doorsteps of the people.

Later, the Deputy Commissioner, accompanied by representatives of the Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry and other trade and civil society associations, undertook an extensive visit to several areas of Shahr-e-Khaas, including Makhdoom Sahib, Bachi Darwaza and Ganj Baksh Park to take firsthand appraisal of various issues regarding civic amenities and developmental concerns of the local population.

During the visit, the DC inspected the existing drainage network, sanitation conditions, road connectivity and other public infrastructure in the area. He interacted with local residents, traders and representatives of various associations, who projected several issues requiring immediate administrative intervention.

On the occasion, the DC directed the concerned Officers to take prompt and priority measures for augmentation and upgradation of drainage systems, improvement of sanitation management, clearance of waste dumps and resolution of other civic issues to ensure better public facilities for the residents of the area. He emphasized the need for coordinated efforts among all line departments to ensure timely redressal of grievances and effective implementation of developmental works on the ground.
