PULWAMA, JUNE 15: As part of the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan (NMJKA), a series of awareness, counselling and youth engagement activities were conducted across various parts of District Pulwama Monday to strengthen the collective fight against substance abuse and promote a healthy, drug-free society.

Awareness programmes were organised at Gulshanpora Aripal, Larkipora Awantipora, Buchoo Dadsara, Hanjipora Kakapora, Chakoora Litter, Kamrazipora Shadimarg, Dhobi Mohalla Khrew and Gangoo Pulwama.

During these programmes, participants were sensitised about the harmful effects of drug abuse and encouraged to play an active role in preventing substance abuse within their communities. Awareness sessions, counselling interactions, pledge ceremonies, Padyatras and community outreach activities were conducted to reinforce the message of a Nasha Mukt society.

Meanwhile, Self Help Group (SHG) members organised awareness and counselling sessions along with a padyatra at Dadsara. The programme highlighted the importance of community participation, family support and collective responsibility in safeguarding youth from the menace of drug abuse and guiding them towards constructive pursuits.

The Department of Youth Services and Sports (YSS), Pulwama, continued its awareness and outreach initiatives under NMBA by organising a series of sports and educational activities across various zones of the district.

As part of the campaign, Zone Pulwama conducted Softball Trials at Boys Higher Secondary School (BHSS) Pulwama, witnessing enthusiastic participation from aspiring players.

Meanwhile, Zone Kakapora organised a zonal-level Kabaddi Tournament for AAG Boys at PS Namam. Students from various institutions across the zone participated with great enthusiasm, displaying sportsmanship, teamwork and competitive spirit.

In Zone Tral, awareness and educational programmes were organised at Government Middle School (GMS) Tral Bala, while speech competitions were conducted at High School Rathsuna, High School Mandoora and Government Middle School Saimaoh. The events provided students with an opportunity to express their views on the harmful consequences of drug abuse and the importance of adopting healthy lifestyles.

Similarly, Zone Tahab organised a speech competition at High School Naina to educate students about the dangers of substance abuse and encourage them to become ambassadors of a drug-free society. Zone Pampore also conducted awareness programmes and speech competitions to sensitise students about the ill effects and long-term repercussions of drug abuse.

Participants across all activities pledged their commitment towards building a healthy, progressive and drug-free Pulwama.
