SRINAGAR, JUNE 24: In a massive, multi-dimensional effort to commemorate the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking under the national theme “Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan – Viksit Bharat Ki Pehchan”, the College Well-being and Anti-Substance Cell of Government College for Women (GCW) Nawakadal organized a mega series of plantation, sports, and music activities Wednesday.

Coordinated by Nodal Officer, Dr. Nuzhat Jan, the day commenced with a campus plantation drive under the sub-theme “Ek Ped Nashey Ke Viruddh” in collaboration with the Department of Botany, led by HOD Dr. Riyaz u Rehman, followed by dynamic competitive matches in badminton, table tennis, and volleyball in collaboration with the Sports Committee.

Simultaneously, a powerful musical awareness program was conducted in collaboration with the Department of Music, led by HOD, Dr. Asmat Ara and CWASC Nodal Officer, Dr. Waseem.

During the event, the Incharge Principal, Prof. (Dr.) Pinu Andrabi, as per an official statement, termed drug addiction a silent epidemic, emphasizing that a drug-free generation is foundational to building a developed nation and stressing that continuous institutional intervention, sports, and arts serve as powerful deterrents.

Dr. Nuzhat Jan highlighted that every single activity and planted sapling Wednesday symbolizes a student’s lifelong pledge toward a healthy, productive lifestyle while encouraging them to be active ambassadors for a drug-free society.

Dr. Waseem added that a culturally vibrant campus forms a strong psychological barrier against narcotics, while Dr. Riyaz u Rehman emphasized that just as strong roots anchor a tree, strong moral values protect youth from toxic dependencies.

Furthermore, Prof. Rukhsana Shawl noted that sports instill the exact discipline needed to shield youth from addiction, and Dr. Asmat Ara concluded by stating that music holds the unique power to awaken societal conscience and heal minds.

The mega event concluded successfully with a collective campus pledge by the students and faculty to actively champion the Nasha Mukt Bharat mission.
