REASI, JUNE 23: Under the visionary leadership of Chairman, District Legal Services Authority Reasi (also Pr. District and Sessions Judge) Khalil Choudhary and the guidance of Secretary DLSA Pooja Gupta, a series of legal awareness programmes were held in different parts of the district. An awareness programme on the Right to Education was conducted at LAC Channa Neosi by PLVs of TLSC Mahore to create awareness among the local residents, parents, and children regarding the importance of education and the legal provisions guaranteeing free and compulsory education to children. The participants were informed about the salient features of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act-2009, including the right of every child ( 6 to 14 yrs) to receive free elementary education, the responsibilities of parents and authorities and the government initiatives aimed at promoting education and reducing school dropouts.

Another awareness programme on “Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (Drug Abuse)” was organized at Market Jamlan – Mahore. The programme was conducted by the Panel Lawyers/Para Legal Volunteers of TLSC Mahore. During the awareness campaign, the participants and members of the public were sensitized to the harmful effects of drug abuse on individuals, families, and society. The speakers highlighted the objectives of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, emphasizing prevention, early intervention, treatment, rehabilitation, and social reintegration of persons affected by substance abuse. The resource persons urged the youth to stay away from narcotic substances and adopt healthy lifestyles. They also informed the participants about the availability of free legal aid and assistance through the Legal Services Institutions for victims and families affected by drug abuse.

Further, an awareness programme to disseminate information regarding the NALSA Helpline Number 15100 was hosted by the Para Legal Volunteers of DLSA Reasi. The PLVs sensitized members of the public about the availability of free legal aid and assistance through the toll-free helpline 15100, which serves as an accessible platform for seeking legal advice, guidance, and information regarding legal services schemes.

The participants were informed that marginalized and vulnerable sections of society, including women, children, senior citizens, persons with disabilities, victims of trafficking, and economically weaker sections, can avail themselves of free legal services through this helpline.
