Srinagar, July 01: Health and Medical Education Minister Sakeena Itoo on Wednesday paid tributes to doctors and paramedical staff on the occasion of National Doctors’ Day, acknowledging their unwavering dedication, compassion and sacrifices in safeguarding lives. She called on people to show respect and appreciation to healthcare professionals for their invaluable contributions to society.

In her National Doctors’ Day message, the minister said doctors remain the backbone of the healthcare system, serving humanity with commitment even in the most difficult and challenging circumstances.

“On this National Doctors’ Day, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to every doctor serving the people of Jammu & Kashmir and the nation. Your unwavering commitment, compassion and sacrifice continue to save lives and inspire hope every single day,” Itoo said in a post on X.

She described doctors as not only healers but also pillars of the healthcare system, who work tirelessly for the well-being of society.

“Let us honour their service by treating them with the respect, trust and gratitude they truly deserve. To every doctor, thank you for your dedication to humanity. Wishing you all a very Happy National Doctors’ Day,” she said.

The minister paid tribute to nurses, paramedics and other frontline healthcare workers, saying their collective efforts have played a vital role in strengthening healthcare delivery and ensuring quality medical care reaches people across Jammu and Kashmir.

Speaking to reporters here, Itoo said Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed significant improvements in key health indicators over the past few years, reflecting the government’s sustained focus on strengthening healthcare infrastructure, expanding medical facilities and improving patient care. “Major projects, including AIIMS Awantipora, are progressing steadily. Around Rs 2,500 crore has already been released for the prestigious institution, which is expected to significantly enhance tertiary healthcare services and medical education in the region,” she said.

Addressing the concerns of outsourced healthcare workers, the minister assured them that the government is aware of the issues related to their long-pending honorarium payments. “The matter would be examined on priority and resolved at the earliest,” she assured, reaffirming the government’s commitment to the welfare of healthcare employees.

Itoo reiterated that the government remains committed to strengthening the healthcare system while ensuring the welfare of doctors, paramedics and all other healthcare workers who continue to serve the people with dedication and professionalism— (KNO)
