BARAMULLA, SEPTEMBER 15: The Regional-cum-Facilitation Centre, Northern Region-II (RCFC NR-II), National Medicinal Plants Board (NMPB), Ministry of AYUSH, SKUAST-Kashmir, organised a series of pre-programme activities at Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Bomai, Sopore, ahead of the 11th Ayurveda Day celebrations scheduled for September 22 and 23 under the theme “Ayurveda for Healthier Tomorrow.”
The programme, as per an official statement, focused on promoting medicinal plants, their conservation, sustainable utilisation and their significance in Ayurveda. An awareness session on “Sustainable Cultivation and Harvesting of Medicinal Plants” was conducted, wherein Project Manager, RCFC NR-II, Dr Sofi Imtiyaz Ali, stressed the adoption of Good Agricultural and Collection Practices (GACP) to ensure quality, sustainability and long-term availability of medicinal plant resources.
He also highlighted the need to integrate Ayurveda with modern scientific approaches, evidence-based practices, quality assurance and sustainable resource management for a healthier future.
As part of the activities, a Green Ayurveda Plantation Drive was conducted within the school premises to promote biodiversity conservation and sustainable cultivation. An Herbal Garden Open Day was also organised, providing students and faculty an opportunity to learn about medicinal plant species and their potential for entrepreneurship and sustainable livelihoods.
Students and faculty members actively participated in the programme along with the technical team of RCFC NR-II. Participants were encouraged to adopt scientific cultivation practices, contribute to medicinal plant conservation and explore livelihood opportunities in the sector with technical guidance and institutional support from RCFC NR-II.
The programme concluded with a call to advance the vision of “Ayurveda for Healthier Tomorrow” through conservation and sustainable utilisation of medicinal plants.
