KULGAM, SEPTEMBER 16: A training programme for the preparation of the District Census Handbook (DCHB) was held Wednesday at Conference Hall, Mini Secretariat, Kulgam as part of the ongoing preparations for Census 2027.

The training programme, as per an official statement, was organised to acquaint the concerned officials with the procedures, formats and other technical aspects involved in the preparation of the District Census Handbook.

The training was imparted by officers from the Directorate of Census Operations (DCO), J&K, who provided detailed guidance on the collection, compilation, verification and presentation of the requisite information.

During the training, participants were briefed about the structure and salient features of the DCHB, the information to be collected through revenue and other official records, preparation of village and town directories, identification of relevant fields, scrutiny of data and adherence to the prescribed schedules and timelines.

Speaking on the occasion, District Census Officer, Kulgam,Viqar Ahmad Giri, emphasised the importance of the DCHB in providing a comprehensive statistical and administrative profile of the district and  highlighted that the Handbook shall serve as an important reference document containing valuable information relating to villages, towns, administrative units, demographic characteristics, civic amenities, infrastructure and other relevant indicators.

He further stressed upon the officials to undertake the assigned work with accuracy, diligence and a coordinated approach, ensuring that the information collected from the field and available through official records is properly verified before compilation.

The officers of DCO also interacted with the participants and addressed their queries regarding the various components of DCHB preparation.
