Extended timings to benefit traders, businesses, tourists

Srinagar, Oct 13: In a move aimed at making postal services more accessible, the Lal Chowk Post Office in Srinagar will remain open till 9 pm instead of the existing 5 pm, allowing customers four additional hours to book mail and parcels.

In a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), a spokesperson said the revised timings would particularly benefit shopkeepers, business establishments and tourists visiting Lal Chowk, one of Srinagar’s busiest commercial hubs.

Adam Mohiuddin, IPoS, Senior Superintendent of Post Offices, said the extension was intended to make postal services more convenient for people who cannot visit the post office during regular working hours.

“Extension of working hours is intended to make postal services more accessible and convenient for people, particularly those unable to visit the post office during regular working hours,” Mohiuddin said.

He said the extended timings would give shopkeepers greater flexibility to book their mail and parcels after completing their business activities during the day. Tourists visiting Srinagar would also have additional time to access postal services.

The statement said the move was expected to improve customer convenience and strengthen postal services in the Lal Chowk area. By keeping the post office operational until 9 pm, the department aims to cater to a wider section of the public and ensure greater access to essential postal facilities. (KNO)
