Commissioner SMC calls for faster verification, disposal of pending applications

SRINAGAR, OCTOBER 30: Commissioner, Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), Dr Basharat Qayoom, Friday reviewed the progress of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana–Urban 2.0 (PMAY-U 2.0), taking stock of the application process, beneficiary verification and measures being undertaken to ensure that eligible families can avail themselves of the benefits of the scheme without unnecessary delays.

During the meeting, the Commissioner, as per an official statement, stressed the need to expedite the verification and scrutiny of applications, particularly those pending at various levels. He directed the concerned officers to work in close coordination, resolve procedural issues promptly and ensure that all eligible applications are processed within the stipulated timeframe.

Dr. Basharat emphasised that the implementation of PMAY-U 2.0 must remain focused on reaching deserving households, particularly those belonging to the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) and Low-Income Groups (LIG). He stressed that the verification process must be conducted carefully and transparently, ensuring that genuine beneficiaries do not face unnecessary difficulties.

The Commissioner also called for intensified awareness activities at the ward level, directing the concerned officers to organise awareness camps, facilitate online registrations and provide the necessary assistance through ward offices. He stressed the importance of ensuring that people are adequately informed about the eligibility criteria, documentation requirements and application procedures under the scheme.

Highlighting the role of Ward Officers and CLTC Experts, he called for their greater involvement at the grassroots level to guide applicants, address their concerns and assist families who may face difficulties with the online registration process. He underscored that wider public awareness and effective facilitation are essential to ensure that no eligible household is left out due to a lack of information or procedural hurdles.

The Commissioner directed all concerned departments and field functionaries to maintain close coordination and pursue the implementation process with urgency, ensuring transparent verification and time-bound disposal of applications.

The meeting was attended by Joint Commissioner, Administration, SMC; Joint Commissioner, R&E, SMC; Assistant Commissioner Revenue, ACR); FA/CAO, SMC; Secretary, SMC; concerned Deputy General Manager, J&K Housing Board; Tehsildars of North, South, Eidgah, Central Shalteng, Khanyar, Panthachowk and Chanapora; representatives of District Social Welfare Officer, Srinagar, and the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affair; besides Ward Officers and CLTC Experts.
