SRINAGAR, OCTOBER 13: In continuation of its series of awareness initiatives under the Nasha Mukt Abhiyan, the Cultural Unit Kashmir, Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR), in collaboration with Islamia College of Science and Commerce, Srinagar, Tuesday organised an impressive day-long awareness programme aimed at sensitising students about the growing menace of drug abuse and promoting a drug-free society.

Principal, Islamia College of Science and Commerce, Dr. Aijaz Ahmad Hakak, emphasised that creating awareness about drug abuse is a collective responsibility and a prime duty of every individual. He called upon students, teachers and civil society to work together to safeguard the younger generation from the devastating consequences of substance abuse.

Addressing the gathering, Assistant Exhibition and Cultural Officer (AECO), Cultural Unit Kashmir, DIPR, Syed Shakeel Shan, urged students to reconnect with Kashmir’s rich Sufi heritage and the timeless teachings of Sufi saints, which advocate peace, compassion, discipline and moral integrity. He stressed the importance of respecting elders, following their guidance and strengthening moral character to resist negative influences and make responsible choices in life.

He also encouraged students to remain focused on education, creativity, innovation and social service, observing that a meaningful and productive engagement in life can play a vital role in preventing substance abuse and building a healthier society.

The programme featured impactful thematic skits, musical performances and awareness speeches presented by artists of the Cultural Unit Kashmir and NSS volunteers of the college.

Through creative expression and thought-provoking presentations, the participants highlighted the harmful consequences of drug addiction and conveyed a strong message in favour of a healthy, responsible and drug-free lifestyle. The performances enthralled the audience and reinforced the importance of collective action against substance abuse.

The event witnessed the participation of faculty members, NSS officers, DIPR officers and a large number of students, reflecting a shared commitment towards the Nasha Mukt Abhiyan.

At the conclusion of the programme, mementoes and certificates of appreciation were presented to the participating students, artists and the Principal in recognition of their contribution and support towards the awareness initiative.

Prof. Wahid expressed gratitude to DIPR for collaborating with the college in organising the programme. He appreciated the efforts of the Cultural Unit Kashmir, the participating artists, NSS volunteers and faculty members for making the event meaningful and impactful. He also reiterated the college’s commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at creating awareness among youth and promoting a drug-free society.
